It may be the oldest race in the country, but that didn't affect Jonas Carney's and Ken Mills' decision to field one of the youngest KBS squads ever last weekend at the Tour of Somerville. The result? Second place from Jake Keough and the continued success of KBS' unofficial young rider development program.
"We brought a young team to Somerville," says performance manager/general manager Ken Mills. "I was very happy with how the whole squad performed. Although we didn't get the win, second place in the country's oldest race shows that our young riders are progressing … [Read more]

"I raced this weekend in the Iron Horse Omnium in my hometown of Durango, Colorado. Saturday's road race was won by Anthony Colby with an attack on the first of the two mountain passes. Phil Zijicek was the heavy favorite and I wanted to make him work to get Colby, but we ended up going to the line with a group 8 guys. I got a gap on the decent, but was swallowed 800 meters to go and finished 6th. I was second in Sunday's Criterium. I attacked on the 3rd lap, rode solo for … [Read more]

In the latest example of real life outdoing Photoshop, Photographer Jim Martin snapped this stunning shot of Neil Shirley winning the Ventura County Road Race this past weekend (Neil ran the table at the race, winning the GC, KOM, points, and sprint crowns).
Check out a bigger version here.
"I was trying to find a good angle for the finish and I saw a few flashes going off on the last few laps so I set up and fired away when Neil crossed hoping I'd catch one. Next time maybe I'll use a remote flash, … [Read more]

KBS took two of the three podium places at this past weekend's Bank of America Wilmington Grand Prix in Wilmington, Delaware, with Zach Bell finishing first and Jake Keough third.

"I raced in the Ventura County Stage Race this weekend. It was a 3 stage, 2 day event. I was 3rd in the prologue Saturday morning and then won the downtown crit in the evening. I got away with 30 minutes to go and won solo, also taking the leaders jersey. Stage 3 was a hilly 65 mile circuit race. Midway through I attacked the field and rode across to Roman Kilun (Ouch). The two of us worked together until the end. Roman won the stage but I won Overall GC, KOM, and Sprint Competitions."

"I rode in the Berkeley Hills Road Race on Sunday. A whole lot of guys attacked from the gun, and after about 5k I decided it was too many (at least 15 riders) with all the big teams in it, so i bridged to it and ended up staying away the whole race. Once it was down to 5 of us left, I soloed the last 10 miles and hung on to win. It was hard."
Zwiz flew solo in the 90 mile race, taking the top of the podium away from teams like California Giant … [Read more]

The 32nd annual Joe Martin Stage Race concluded Sunday in the downtown Fayetteville criterium. After over 12,000 feet of elevation change over the previous three days of racing, things didn't get much easier during the speedy crit as KBS riders battled to move up on the GC. Veteran rider Neil Shirley continued a solid weekend of racing, taking 14th in the stage and 6th in the overall GC. Teammate Jacob Erker landed at 15th on the overall GC, 11 seconds behind Shirley. David "Le Carcajou" Veilleux, injured earlier this season, returns to the Kelly Benefit Strategies stage race squad for the first time this week to race the Joe Martin Stage Race in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The race is said to be the first real test of Veilluex's form since breaking his collarbone during training in San Antonio, TX at the start of the year.
"We're excited to have Le Carcajou back," says Jonas Carney, performance director. "He has a few races under his belt but Joe Martin is the first race that will be perfect to test his form. It's also … [Read more]
