KBS Sends Winners Squad to Fitchburg

The Kelly Benefit Strategies pro team lines up an A-squad of winners for the 50th anniversary Fitchburg Longsjo Classic today in Fitchburg, Massachusetts today, Wednesday. Racing Fitchburg for the first time as a team, KBS comes to the milestone event fresh from winning the Tour de Beauce, stage two of the Tour of America's Dairyland, the Tour of Winghaven (NRC) and seeing David Veilleux take his third consecutive Canadian U23 National Time Trial title.
"The Fitchburg Longsjo Classic should really suit our team well," says performance director, Jonas Carney. "The courses aren't as challenging as what we faced in Beauce and we have several very strong time trialists and a lot of sprint power on the roster. Coming right off a series of big wins, we feel confident going into Fitchburg."
KBS competes at Fitchburg for the first time at the 50th anniversary race, despite having a solo rider – Justin Spinelli – race and finish second place on the GC in 2008.
The Fitchburg Longsjo Classic was first held in 1960 as the Fitchburg Longsjo Memorial Race and renamed by the USCF in 1980. It is one of only a small number of races to enjoy classic status and comprises a time trial, hilly circuit race, a road race ending on top of Wachusett Mountain and the downtown Criterium. All events go to raise money for the Longsjo Legacy of Champions Fund at the North Central Massachusetts Community Foundation, which supports youth fitness programs and education. The race takes its name from Art Longsjo, a Fitchburg native and the first Native American to race in the summer and winter Olympics in 1956.
